![]() Her novels have been translated into more than thirty-five languages, and sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. Her other YA novels include the Delirium trilogy: Delirium, Pandemonium, and Requiem, Vanishing Girls, Broken Things, and the Replica duology. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, garnering a wide release from Open Road Films that year. Oliver's first bestselling novel, Before I Fall, was acquired by Awesomeness Films and adapted into a major motion picture starring Zoey Deutch. Glasstown Entertainment has a first-look deal with Amazon Studios where they are currently in development on projects like I Hope You Get This Message by Farah Rishi and Havenfall by Sara Holland, being adapted by Evan Daughtery and co-producing with Weed Road Pictures. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good young adult dystopian romance.Lauren Oliver is a multi- New York Times bestselling author, the executive producer, creator and sole writer for the first season of Amazon Studio's one-hour drama series, Panic (premiering May 28), based on her bestselling novel of the same name, and co-founder of Glasstown Entertainment, where she also serves as the president of production. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel it kept me enthralled and the epic cliff-hanger made me dive directly into Pandemonium. ![]() You get the feeling that the characters are friends of yours and you’re reading their story rather than reading the story of a stranger. Oliver’s writing style was descriptive and flowing she definitely understands the audience she’s writing for. With certain events and incidents in the novel, she grows from them, developing her understanding of the world and her mind as a character, not only finding herself, but secrets kept hidden. I think the most remarkable character development is Lena herself and it’s not a complete 360 in ten seconds flat and she’s not a whiney female lead. The character development in the novel is astounding, with characters actually growing and changing as the story progresses. Lauren Oliver has a way with words that just sucks you into Lena’s world, you sort of wish you were part of it and at the same time you wish you were safely tucked in your own world reading words on a page. In a dystopian society how is she meant to not only let her love blossom but hide it from her family, a family who is bent on keeping Lena safe, secure and happy, all without the Deliria. With ninety-five days until her cure, it happens, Lena falls in love. It’s then that Lena sees Alex Sheathes, a man she mistakes as an Invalid and in a world where Love is unthinkable, it happens. But with the stress of the evaluation, she makes a huge mistake just before a stampede of cows runs through the facility, ruining her evaluation. With Lena’s cure looming, she has her evaluation, an evaluation that will place her with the most suitable partner. But the Government with its Handbook (The Safety, Health and Happiness Handbook), The Book of Shhh as Lena calls it, have found a cure for the disease, a cure for love. Seventeen-year-old Lena Haloway has been brought up, in the fenced off city of Portland, Maine, to believe that Love is indeed a disease, Amor Deliria Nervosa. In Lauren Oliver’s Delirium, the first novel in the Delirium trilogy, that world is a reality. Now imagine that world to be fenced off cities in the United States. Imagine a world where Love was a disease. Delirium trilogy #1 A review by Elizabeth Manthos

There are, of course, numerous evaluative methods (i.e. In other words, this phase is intended to help you determine what criteria you will use to evaluate how well students are “getting it,” and what evidence you will accept with respect to evaluating their individual progress in mastering the course content. This phase is essentially a way of helping you structure evaluative strategies into the course design so that you are able to gauge students’ progress towards the desired learning outcomes. Determine appropriate criteria for evaluating students’ progress Identifying where various aspects of your course content fit within these three categories will help you clarify the specific, concrete learning outcomes that you have for your students, and will also help you decide how to structure the course to assist your students in achieving these goals. What “enduring understandings” do you want the students to take away with them, and retain and remember long after the course has ended? These are the essential “big ideas” or core concepts that students must understand in order to benefit from the course. What content is “important to know” or “important to do” for students? What facts, principles, or concepts is it important (rather than simply worthwhile) for students to be familiar with? Are there processes, strategies, or methods that it is important for them to learn or be able to use?.What content is it “worth being familiar with” for students? In other words, what is it worthwhile for students to read, discuss, hear about, or otherwise be exposed to?.To help you define the curricular priorities for the course, Wiggins and McTighe suggest the following three questions to help you progressively narrow in on and define the most important content areas. The reason for this is because within the limits of the course, such as time, it is likely that you will need to prioritize certain goals over others to ensure that the most important learning outcomes are achieved. In addition to these guidelines, it is also helpful to categorize the goals you have for the course in order of importance. Create: ability to innovate and produce new knowledge.Evaluate: ability to judge, reason, and critique.Analyze: ability to organize, differentiate and attribute.Apply: the ability to perform an unfamiliar task by applying previous knowledge to a new situation or problem.Understand: the ability to understand, interpret, classify, summarize and compare, and to construct meaning.Remember: the ability to recover and access knowledge from long-term memory. This taxonomy describes cognitive learning processes with respect to increasing levels of abstraction and complexity, from basic to advanced, around which goals can be organized. In defining specific course goals, many teachers make use of A Taxonomy for Learning, Teaching and Assessing (Anderson, Krathwohl, 2001) as a guide. In addition, it is helpful to ask yourself what the impact of the course will be on students, and how you hope they will be different by the end of it. In order to define the goals or learning outcomes for the course, you will need to formulate a clear idea of what students should know, understand, and/or be capable of doing. For each of these phases, there are a number of benchmarks to help guide the course design process. The Backward Design approach consists of three phases: identify the desired outcomes determine the acceptable criteria for evaluating students’ progress and plan the instructional methodologies. See also: Instructional Design Models and Theories Only when one knows exactly what one wants students to learn should the focus turn toward consideration of the best methods for teaching the content, and meeting those learning goals. This framework is “backward” only to the extent that it reverses the typical approach, so that the primary focus of course design becomes the desired learning outcomes. In their excellent book, Understanding by Design, Wiggins and McTighe propose the “ Backward Design” framework for course design. Having a clear goal helps us educators to focus our planning and guide purposeful action toward the intended results.” Forward Design Process vs Backward Design Process.Plan the instructional methodology and learning experience Determine appropriate criteria for evaluating students' progress ![]() The Suite contains 4 tools to guarantee seamless cross-platform data exchange and disk space management: Yes, you can purchase our new Paragon Mac ToolBox for just $54.99. ![]() One of the easiest ways to tell if a tick is a deer tick is by the characteristic scutum (also known as the shield) that can be seen on both sides of the front legs. ![]() How do you tell if a tick is a deer tick? Most members of the deer tick subgroup are common carriers of Lyme disease, whereas, members of the wood tick subgroup are carriers of various pathogens that cause many diseases such as the Rocky Mountain fever and tick paralysis. Wood ticks of the Dermacentor genus are found in all continents except Australia. In Europe, it is Ixodes ricinus, also known as the castor bean tick. Ixodes scapularis (i.e., bear tick) is from northern and eastern regions of the Midwest U.S. The word deer tick refers to several tick species of the genus Ixodes that includes Ixodes pacificus (i.e., Western blacklegged tick) from the western coast of North America. So what’s the difference between a deer tick and wood tick? While deer ticks and wood ticks are sweeping terms for ticks under the Ixodidae family, they belong to two separate subgroups. The Rocky Mountain wood tick can also spread tularemia, commonly called tick fever. Experts believe the American dog tick is the carrier of the Rocky Mountain fever on the Eastern coast of the U.S. While wood ticks do not carry Lyme disease, they do carry other diseases and can cause tick paralysis. Small mammals also becomae the host of it, such as dog. Large mammals such as horses, deer, cattle and even porcupines are host to this tick species. One common species in this genus is the American dog tick (dermacentor variabilis). As of 2010, about 34 known species make up the Dermacentor genus. This subfamily of hard ticks is everywhere, having native species on all continents with the exception of Australia. It is a member of the Ixodidae family, also known as hard ticks in some places. The word wood tick is also a common term for the genus Dermacentor, also called the American Levi tick. A disease-carrying Rocky Mountain wood tick The deer tick requires a blood meal before it can move to the next stage of its life cycle. An engorged deer tick looks very different when it has not fed, making it easy to think it is a different tick species.Ī deer tick usually has a life span of 2 years and goes through three life stages – tick larva, tick nymph, and adult. It is a carrier of tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme disease.Ī deer tick that had just finished feeding will be engorged, and its abdomen turns a light, grayish blue. In Europe, the term refers to Ixodes ricinus, also known as the castor bean tick. It usually clings on white-tailed deer hence the name deer tick. It can cause several diseases among humans and animals such as anaplasmosis, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, etc. In the northern and eastern regions of the Midwest, it refers to Ixodes scapularis, a hard-bodied tick also known as the bear tick in some areas in the U.S. Most people in the West coast call it the blacklegged tick. Many fear this species of deer tick as the principal carrier of Lyme disease, a bacterial disease that can later develop into disorders in the heart and nervous system. In the western coast of North America, it refers to the Western blacklegged tick, or Ixodes pacificus. The term deer tick is used to refer to several species of parasitic, disease-carrying ticks of the Ixodes genus under the Ixodidae family. Nature serves as a symbol that represents dilemma and the knowledge retrieval, the desire to find old truth. Roads in the poem are “non-trodden, so it means that a person has to pave the way in his life by life expectations and aims: “And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black. In the poem, the path is a symbol of the future, and a person has a choice to choose his road. Nature is different as a human’s inner world does: winter is a piece of mind and autumn means mediation (Kennedy and Gioia 11). ![]() In the poem, the theme of wood implies not only wisdom but also the whole life of a person, who has a right to choose which path to go. “Wood” means the life experience of a particular person, and it brings a message to everyone to think over the next step in his life. “I thought that only someone who lived in turning to fresh tasks could so forget his handiwork on which He spent himself the labor of his axe”. ![]() It is possible to assume that the theme of “wood” means “great, century-old wisdom” of nature and a human being. Beauty is depicted and enhanced by the poet’s rendering of delicate expressions that come together to form a beautiful composition of nature at its best (Juten and Zubizarreta 81). In the poem, a glorious scene of nature grasps the readers’ imagination: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood”. ![]() The author gives only some hints to the reader to comprehend the meaning of the poem, and under “paths” he means our life with non-trodden paths, which we have to carve. Nature, and the theme of wood, in particular, is used as a symbol to describe the deep personal feelings and life experience of a human. The poem depicts nature and discusses how beautiful it is.
